Why the result is always a PNG

Rounded corners need transparency, and JPG cannot store it — saving as JPG would fill the cut corners with a solid colour, usually black. The download is a PNG so the corners are genuinely see-through on any background.

Both the corner radius and the border thickness are set as a share of the shorter edge, so the same settings look right on a small thumbnail and a large photo.

How do I add a white border to a photo?
Add the photo, move the border slider until it looks right, and leave the colour on white. Download the PNG when you are happy.
Does the image get bigger?
No. The border is drawn inside the picture, so the pixel size stays the same as the original.
