One at a time, on purpose
A crop is a decision about a particular picture. The same rectangle applied across twenty photographs would be wrong for all of them, so this handles one image at a time and shows you exactly what you are keeping.
The format is kept, and the crop is a straight cut — no scaling, no re-sizing, so the pixels you keep are the pixels you had. Use Resize Images if you also need it smaller.
Photos that record their orientation as a tag are rotated upright first, so the box you drag matches the picture you are looking at rather than how the camera stored it.

Why one image at a time?
Because a crop is a decision about a particular picture. The same rectangle applied across twenty photographs would be wrong for all of them, so this shows you one image and exactly what you are keeping.
Does cropping lose quality?
No. It is a straight cut with no scaling, so the pixels you keep are exactly the pixels you had. The file gets smaller simply because there is less of it.
Why is my photo the right way up here but sideways elsewhere?
Photos often record their orientation as a tag rather than rotating the pixels. That rotation is applied before you crop, so the box you drag matches the picture you can see, and the result comes out upright everywhere.
Can I crop to a fixed shape?
Yes. Square, 4:3, 16:9 and 3:2 are all available, and the box stays on that shape as you drag. Free-hand is the default.
