How it works

  1. Step 1

    Drop a PDF

Drag up to 10 PDFs onto the page, or browse for them. Each can be up to 25 MB.

  2. Step 2

    Edit the details

The form opens filled in with what the document already says. Change what you need and empty what you do not want.

  3. Step 3

    Download it

The pages are untouched — only the document information changes.

What these fields are

Every PDF carries a small record about itself: a title, an author, the software that made it. Most people never see it, which is exactly why it causes trouble — a document sent to a client still carrying a colleague's name, or a title reading 'Microsoft Word - Untitled1' that shows up in the viewer's window bar and sometimes in search results. Emptying a field here clears it in the file rather than leaving the old value behind.

Title
what a viewer shows in its window bar, and what search engines often use
Author
frequently left over from whoever owned the template
Subject and keywords
used by document management systems and some search tools
Creator and producer
the application it came from and the software that wrote the file

Questions

Why does my PDF say someone else is the author?
Almost always because it started life as a copy of someone else template, or was exported by an application signed in to a colleague account. The name is carried in the document information and travels with the file, which is why it turns up in front of clients.
Does emptying a field really remove it?
Yes. Every field is written back, including the empty ones, so clearing a box clears it in the file rather than leaving the previous value in place. That is the difference that matters when the field being cleared is a name.
Is this the same as removing hidden data?
No, and it is worth being clear about. This edits the document information record and nothing else. Comments, form field values and the text of the document itself are separate, and a title change does not touch them.
Are the pages affected?
Not at all. The content of the document is untouched and nothing is re-encoded — only the record the file keeps about itself changes.
